Black Jack marijuana strain is a 50/50 blend of Cannabis Sativa and Cannabis Indica. Normally I try to avoid C. Sativa unless it’s free or just plain stupefyingly potent, but I’ve been trying different combinations of blends for the sake of experimentation. So far, this 50/50 is the best use of Sativa that I’ve found, making Black Jack a unique and sufficiently powerful marijuana strain to warrant regular use by just about anyone. Except me, of course, because I’m a Weed Snob and prefer to only smoke 5 Star strains.Black Jack: Look & Feel
The Black Jack marijuana strain is richly colored with different shades of healthy green. There are a few orange, brown and even some yellow hairs here and there, but overall this strain is pretty green.
Black Jack buds are partly dense and partly brittle; the buds are inconsistent in that one end may be nicely formed but then taper down to a weak section. Despite this the buds are stickier than most that I’ve found in Barcelona.
Black Jack: Taste & Smell
Black Jack has a remarkable aroma with clear notes of lavender, lemon and sage. While most high-grade cannabis strains invariably possess a high note of ammonia, Black Jack’s high note is something similar to Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile soap.
Weirdly enough, the fragrant nature of Black Jack does not translate to a similar taste or flavor. In fact, this pot strain is shockingly tasteless. It does leave a bit of a stale aftertaste in your mouth, but this is more of a sensation than a flavor.
Black Jack produces very thick white smoke without resulting in a massive coughing fit. The concentration of this smoke is reduced as the outer layers of it burn off, which tells me that the strain might have been dried out a little too soon.
Black Jack: Potency
After 2 hits from a clean bong I didn’t notice much of a high. On my initial review of any particular marijuana strain I always pause for 3-5 minutes after 2 hits to see if that dosage is sufficient and to take notice of where in my body the high begins. Normally even weak strains produce at least some minor or early stage high, but by 2 hits I felt nothing.
At the third hit I began to feel a mild high on the very top of my head, and there was a distinct sensation that my energy levels had increased. By 4 hits I was happily high, with all of it situated above the neck. I felt exceptionally energetic and was able to crank out a ton of work while on this strain, and ran 5-6 miles a couple of times over the few days that I smoked it. I felt great!
Black Jack: Duration
Black Jack isn’t as potent as strains like Yumboldt, Amnesia or NYC Diesel, but it does have a consistent high, which may be more valuable to some people than a powerful one. Experienced smokers can expect to easily get 2 hours out of Black Jack, and the high will remain consistent after the initial peaking period that lasts for about 5-8 minutes.
Exercise doesn’t seem to reduce the high by much, but eating will quickly degrade it; especially icy cold foods or beverages.
Conclusion
Black Jack provides a sufficient and notably energetic high, presumably because of its high concentration of Sativa. This is an excellent strain for people who seek an active high that allows them to function at full capacity. Unfortunately, the Sativa content reduces the potency of the type of high that I prefer, so my overall rating for this strain is 4 stars. I’d be very interested in trying this strain at 65/35 Indica/Sativa because I think that just might be the ultimate combination for a high that kicks your ass while still allowing you to kick ass.

Origins, Genetics, History
Black Jack is a70 % Indica and 30 % Sativa weed hybrid with THC levels that come up to 24 %. It is descended from Black Domina and Jack Herer and produced by Sweet Seeds breeders. These are both heavyweight, hard-hitting, and flavorful strains. Another version called Blackjack without a space between the worlds was created by Nirvana seeds. These versions are similar and genetically related. The goal of this weed was a high THC strain which is rugged, grows easily, produces a high yield and a high high.
Appearance and Smell
The Nirvana version of Black Jack is over 80 inches tall but has smaller, dense buds and light green leaves. The Sweet Seeds version has a larger bud structure. Both can be induced to produce anthocyanins providing a purple-grape color to the leaves and buds. As you can see from the nugget above, the light greeny green, purple purp, and wild orange hairs are enveloped in sticky resin and trichomes with a high THC count.
The smell of Black Jack is definitely herbal and nature-like. You will smell pine, earth, and spice. Pine will predominate, due to the levels of a terpene called pinene, because it produces the smell of fresh pine trees. It’s the fragrance that inspired the ubiquitous pine car freshener of the early 80s and 90s.
How to Grow Black Jack Cannabis Seeds or Cuttings
Growing weed from Black Jack cannabis seeds or cuttings is said by growers to be easy to moderate. These plants can grow very tall, up to 10 feet, so be ready to move those lamps up high and provide sufficient nutrients, water, and air. Yes, much of the material that goes into the plant is going to come from the air. People often assume trees grow so big because they are taking material from the ground when in fact, they are taking particles from the air. So it is with your weed. So, you want to keep the air crisp, clean, dry, and circulating. Indoors, you can use a grow tent with high discharge lamps and put your plants in 5-gallon buckets with sufficient nutrients and fertilizer. Make sure your tent is high enough to keep in your trees which could grow to the size of a giant. Make sure your lamps can go that high. It can take up to 72 days before the plants are ready to flower. You will get a bounty of almost 22 ounces per square meter of space of potent Black Jack cannabis.

Black Jack is a 70 / 30 Indica / Sativa with up to 24 % THC. This identifies it as a strain which can induce a powerful sense of relaxation in some patients. It can also induce significant pain relief. One condition where these qualities can be very useful is in the treatment of Crohn’s Disease.
Crohn’s disease is a disease in which the digestive system becomes inflamed and causes the patient to experience severe pain, diarrhea, anal fissure, and sometimes bleeding from the rectum. These symptoms come and go, they have flare-ups and remissions. They can experience severe weight fluctuations and find it difficult to eat during flare-ups and therefore lose a lot of weight. Once refeeding occurs, the metabolism is low and they may then compensate by gaining a tremendous amount of weight. The causes of these symptoms appear to be environmental and genetic. There is a strong genetic component to Crohn’s disease. Although much of the symptoms are caused by a strong immune response, it is not considered an autoimmune disease because the immune system appears to be targeting bacteria, rather than native tissue, but the response is excessive and can cause collateral damage. At other times, the patient exhibits immune deficiencies. Attacks of Crohn’s are typically treated with corticosteroids. Sometimes an immunosuppressive such as methotrexate is used. Both of these medications can be extremely toxic. Therefore, patients frequently examine alternative treatments. Anecdotal reports of improvement in pain and functioning during flareups in those using marijuana began to appear as marijuana legalization was on the horizon. In 2011, a study published in the Israel Medical Association Journal showed an incredible reduction in the need for other medications and surgeries in patients with Crohn’s disease given medical marijuana treatment. Particularly revealing is the great reduction in the need for surgeries. In a period of 9 years without cannabis medication, patients required 19 surgeries. After cannabis use, in a period of 3 years, only two people required surgery (Naftali, Lb, D, E, & Konikoff, 2011). You can imagine over 9 years using cannabis, you might average just 6 surgeries, versus the 19 required without cannabis. This is an incredible gain for patients with this painful, debilitating, and unpredictable disease. This is great evidence for the reduction of pain and other symptoms by the controlled use of medical cannabis in Crohn’s disease. Due to this evidence, medical marijuana has been legalized for the treatment of Crohn’s disease in many states, even some which are not rated as cannabis friendly states.
In a small study published in 2013 in Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology of patients with Crohn’s disease, the initiation of therapy with medical cannabis resulted in remission in 10 of 11 patients (Naftali, et al., 2013). Though this is a small study, this is an incredible result for the 780,000 Americans and those around the world who suffer from Crohn’s disease. BlackJack marijuana certainly has enough THC to be a leading strain for the treatment of Crohn’s disease.

Oh such a tasty, even gourmet thing is a rare experience. It is fabulous from the very opening of the package as its amazing, but hardly noticeable grassy aroma washes over you, putting a grin immediately on your face. If you pay attention you might smell hints of sweet pine in the flavor. The appearance stands head and shoulders above any other strain, the person that made it needs a medal. No, lots of medals. The taste is so heavenly unbelievable, it provides you happiness right away. The experience is incomparable to anything I've ever tasted before, it's like you are a carefree child again, and you don't notice the high slowly creeping over your body. And now I feel I've smoked too much and need to lie down for a moment and contemplate some interesting thoughts in my mind but I'm not sleepy, just relaxed af. Head-high came shortly after body high and I was on another planet before I even understood it. I took another bowl heating it slowly so that high would come on me gently. Oh I'm watching the 'History of the eagles' on Netflix, thank you Black Jack, this evening is just perfect!

I fail to remember any other strain I love so much as Black Jack right now. It's amazing how after being trimmed and cured the percentage of trichomes in the entire weight is really high. Interesting fact, the smoke doesn't change the odor after you inhale it, cause on the exhale you can smell the same flavor. The elaborate genetics of this strain will shook all the cannabis loving community as it has legendary and most powerful parents in the world (and grandparents, and grand-grandparents...) on its BOTH sides! So this is a qualitative hybrid with an extremely potent Indica side, but there's nothing I can do... I must say that Sativa part in it is much stronger. Thus you won't have a couch lock at the beginning but what you WILL enjoy is the state of being calm and peaceful which really helps with depression, anxiety, lack of appetite, sleep problems, lack of motivation/creativity and ability to be present and enjoy beautiful moments in life. As you can see, this mix of indica/sativa effects is quite interesting and is definitely worth trying at least once. Strong but smooth, it'll have you well rested and ready to go. The absolute champion amongst other strains for me.
